Today's New York Times  reports that the National Academy of the Sciences has released a report recommending changes to our present elections systems highly consistent with the goals of the grassroots Election Integrity groups presently publishing their goals as widely as possible.

     Among the six recommendations in the NAS report, one gives pause: the recommendation (4) to "crosscheck voter registrations . . .  to weed out duplicates" . . . among state-level databases. Sound familiar? The database system is not Kris Kobach's monster, however, but a preferred alternative, ERIC, recommended as less subject to corruption and malicious intent.

     An endorsement by NAS will receive far more attention than the grassroots. Let's hope that it goes far to achieve our goal of fair, transparent, and accurate elections we can all trust and verify.
